For 12 years the murder of Rashawn Brazell went unsolved until  Kwauhuru Govan was charged in February 2017.

At the time, Govan was already in custody in New York City for the murder of 17 year-old Sharabia Thomas, who was killed in 2004.  Her case remained unsolved for years until cold-case detectives were able to match DNA found under her fingernails to Govan.

According to both the New York Daily News and PIX11 News, authorities are eyeing Govan in relation to other unsolved crimes.  NYPD Chief of Detectives has stated that Govan "might be a serial killer."

Kwauhuru Govan has ties to New York, California and Florida.  He has a long criminal history involving "robbery, assault, burglary and weapons possession."
